چکیده

In a recent study of the cytophagocytosis of Sarcoma I (SaI) cells by alloimmune macrophages', the problem arose as to whether a SaI cell, that was surrounded by a macrophage within the plane of section, was in fact completely phagocytized or whether a portion of the cell surface was free in another plane . Certain observations, such as the absence of clear areas between the plasma membrane of the SaI cell and the membrane of the macrophage and the presence of electron-opaque material within the

The Role of Mucopolysaccharides in Vesicle Architecture and Endothelial Transport

Electron microscope studies have helped to define the fine structure of pinocytic vesicles and have provided information leading to a better understanding of their function (1-3) . Although "an endocapillary layer (or sheath)" which would play a role in transendothelial transport was predicted (4), most electron microscope studies did not clearly demonstrate such a structure (1-3) until the rut...

The Fine Structure of Chondrococcus Columnaris

An electron microscope study of the myxobacterium Chondrococcus columnaris has revealed the following structures in the peripheral layers of the cells: (1) a plasma membrane, (2) a single dense layer (probably the mucopeptide component of the cell wall), (3) peripheral fibrils, (4) an outer membrane, and (5) a material coating the surfaces of the cells which could be stained with the dye ruthen...

Comparative effect of osmium tetroxide and ruthenium tetroxide on Penicillium sp. hyphae and Saccharomyces cerevisiae fungal cell wall ultrastructure.

The fungal cell wall viewed through the electron microscope appears transparent when fixed by the conventional osmium tetroxide method. However, ruthenium tetroxide post-fixing has revealed new details in the ultrastructure of Penicillium sp. hyphae and Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast. Most significant was the demonstration of two or three opaque diverse electron dense layers on the cell wall of...

Distribution of glycosaminoglycans in the aqueous outflow system of the cat.

Although glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) have been postulated to play a role in the regulation of intraocular pressure, structural localization of specific varieties of GAGs in the outflow system is necessary before their precise role can be determined. In this study, the outflow system of the cat was stained with ruthenium red to identify GAGs with the electron microscope. The composition of the rut...

A Simple New Method to Synthesize Nanocrystalline Ruthenium Dioxide in the Presence of Octanoic Acid As Organic Surfactant

Ruthenium dioxide nanoparticles (RuO2 ) with an average particle size of 50 nm are readily synthesized from RuCl3.xH2O via the precipitation process in the presence of in-situ sodium octanoate as anionic surfactant. The phase composition, morphology, lattice parameters and size of nanoparticles in these products are characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffrac...
